European Union is extending the use of the Emissions Trading System (ETS)

Published 13 september 2023

Starting from the 1st of January 2024 The European Union is extending the use of the Emissions Trading System (ETS) to include the shipping industry and ferry operators with the aim of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

This step is driven by the need to enhance the adoption of carbon neutral energy sources and sustainable practices throughout all operational aspects of the supply chain.
As a result of the implementation of the ETS the shipping companies will introduce a ETS surcharge from the 1st of January 2024.
More information regarding how NTEX will handle this surcharge and the effect will be communicated latest by the 1st of December.
